We have to get out of here - A homage to Ton Steine Scherben and Rio Reiser is one of the best compilations to date, which deals with the legacy of one of the most important, influential German bands. The poetic songs with political clout have been carried over into the new millennium by bands from the genres Indie & Post-Punk & Pop. The cr?me de la cr?me of political pop culture is also present: Die Sterne, Fettes Brot, Beatsteaks, Fehlfarben, Gisbert zu Knyphausen, Die H?chste Eisenbahn, Rocko Schamoni, Bosse, Newfoundland, Jan Delay, Erregung ?ffentlicher Erregung, Schrottgrenze, Das Bierbeben, Wir sind Helden, Slime and many more. Ton Steine Scherben was one of, if not THE most important and influential German rock group of the 1970s and early 1980s, which mainly used socially critical, German-language lyrics in rock music. The songs were political, but were based on the individual, on subjective experiences of oppression and frustration, as well as on the desire for community and freedom. The Scherben songs were the soundtrack to the revolt of an entire generation. Singer Rio Reiser was a charismatic person and his lyrics have certainly influenced the content and attitude of bands like Tocotronic, Die Sterne, Fehlfarben or Annenmaykantereit to this day. This band wrote the soundtrack of the left-wing movement (Rio Reiser), the 68er, without letting it go up and down. Authentic lyrics, which on the fine line between politics, anarchy and poetry mostly effortlessly dance(ed), (gripping) rock music, which for example anticipates punk, lifts the political song into a new dimension and makes the love song exciting again. Plus Rio Reiser with an incomparable voice and energy. Ton Steine Scherben and their singer Rio Reiser created something that seemed impossible until then: To make good, authentic rock music with German lyrics that did not sound embarrassing, but quite natural. The songs were political, but they were based on the individual, on subjective experiences of oppression and frustration and on the desire for community and freedom. In short, the pieces had a message. Thus the shards of songs became the soundtrack to a revolt. In 1985, Ton Steine Scherben disintegrated. What remained? Besides an unredeemed utopia, many incredibly moving songs for eternity. We have to get out of here celebrates a generation-spanning homage to 50 years of Ton Steine Scherben and 70 years of Rio Reiser. With exciting interpretations by experienced and young, fresh artists from Germany, who are influenced by the works of the Scherben. More than half of the songs were recorded in summer 2020 especially for this project. And some of the tracks are available on vinyl and streaming for the first time.
