VINER,MARK - Alkan:Grande Sonata (Sealed) (CD)

British pianist Mark Viner continues his Alkan project with a new recording of the massive Grande Sonata 'Les quatre ?ges' op. 33 and the 3 Morceaux dans le Genre path?tique by Alkan (1813-1888). In the Grande Sonata he musically describes in four movements the different phases of human life, from exuberant youth to tragic old age; the three Morceaux are highly independent tone poems, the first reminiscent of a love poem, the second of the howling winter wind, and the third Morte of a haunted cemetery - with strikingly pre-listening echoes of Ravel's Le Gibet.
