"Beginners"... the thread that runs through the writing and the recording of these songs is in the title. Borrowed from Raymond Carver, it now stands as a frame for these ten songs written as if they were ten short stories. Five years on from Angus McOg's last album "Arnaut", the time spent writing and recording of "Beginners" has left its mark in this new material. Considerable effort was invested in the lyrics, drafted as narrative sketches around the idea that we're all somehow beginners: beginners in love for the most part, which, by the way, basically implies being beginners in almost every sense.
