Only rarely does an act stray from the small Swiss Alpine republic into the big, wide world. After Boy, Wintershome is another band that undoubtedly has what it takes for an international career. Their semi-acoustic, handmade folk pop, the first single "Up To You" and the other songs of the debut album are musically oriented to the US West Coast sound of the 1970s. Especially the wonderfully light and somnambulistically sure intoned chants of the three female and three male voices remind of the harmonic chants of many Californian bands in the era of "Summer of Love", but in the Valais the whole thing gets its very own twist, less psychedelic, more like the contemporary pop of a zaz or Mumford & Sons. In September 2017, the sextet retired to the renowned Bear Creek Studio ( Eric Clapton, Foo Fighters) in Washington State for a month. There, in a 19th century wooden barn converted into a studio in a picturesque forest area north of Seattle, the "natural children" felt completely at ease. The environment contributed to the success of "Around You I Found You" as well as the great experience of producer Ryan Hadlock. The Grammy winner, who had already supervised The Lumineers, Vance Joy and Brandi Carlile in the recording room, immediately recognised the potential of Wintershome. "I have the responsibility to capture the strengths of a great song," is how he describes his role in the production process. In accordance with this sound philosophy, to always work out the essence of a song with the technological studio means of our days, in the case of Wintershome he has concentrated on its catchy melodies and sentence songs and thereby uncovered qualities that need not shy away from international comparisons.
