WOMAN's debut album HAPPY FREEDOM is now available from Asmara Records. Simple answers are required. WOMAN would rather ask questions. For example this one here: Where you gonna go when the planet erupts? Is the first song by Dust, the first song on HAPPY FREEDOM, the first album of the Cologne trio. For five years already, this band has been rumbling, who knows it from the beginning, exchanges its early impressions like secret knowledge. The story began in 2012 in the basement bar in the Belgian quarter of Cologne. Three friendly musicians from the city did not even have a name, but the first set stood. It was loud and chaotic, half collapsing new buildings, half suicide. Whoever was there rubbed his eyes: Okay, the thing was conceptually still in the children's shoes, but the intensity and the joy of experimenting the music all took. The trio began to play live and after a few gigs, WOMAN developed rapidly. The band now sounded electronic and cosmic, funky and psychedelic. However, attempts to record the pieces failed. Our demands on ourselves were too high says Manuel Tran, guitarist, singer, keyboardist. So we rejected the songs. This hurt, but was a necessary decision, added Milan Jacobi, the drummer. Carlos Hufschlag, keyboarder and singer, became the important new man of WOMAN. HAPPY FREEDOM was produced by no one less than Zebo Adam, who is also responsible for the distinctive sound of picture book. The collaboration began with the first EP Fever, which appeared in spring 2016 on Asmara Records (imprint of Jakarta Records, Berlin) and hit high waves: such mysterious, sexy and clever music is rarely heard. To date, the EP Fever has reached 500,000 streams on Spotify. In the summer and autumn of 2016 the mail went off. The band played among others the Haldern-Festival, Marius Lauber a.k.a. Roosevelt made a remix for the piece Touch, which brought WOMAN to the playlist of BBC 1. Finally, 1Live-Connaisseur Klaus Fiehe told the audience that no other new band was spoken at the Eurosonic Noorderslag festival in Groningen at the beginning of 2017. For the production of HAPPY FREEDOM, the band joined Zebo Adam in his ivory tower in Vienna for several weeks. Adam's kind of valuable work is, of course, expensive, and okay shots can also be significantly cheaper with laptop and Ableton live software. But this simple way was not a question for us, says Manu. Right, because what does the pop world need less than average? The cover of HAPPY FREEDOM shows the earth's core as a disco ball, but life is not just a hedonism and decadence. Without soul, friendship, love and society, nothing, dear individual.
