Weather Systems was one of my all time favorite albums. It was one of the most rewarding musical experiences I've ever encountered. It was soaring, it was majestic. It swept me away on a beautiful sunny cloud of music. Don't expect quite the same thing here. Distant Satellites is a lot grittier. Many moments hark back to the Anathema of the early 2000s, "You Are Not Alone" chief among them. It is much darker, less clean and more aggressive. It still soars, but now it does so in a much more visceral way. Some may like this approach and I may grow to like it more than I do now, but it still stands as a serious departure from the feeling they had on their last two outings. This being said, this is Anathema, and there were many moments that had me gawking at its beauty. My personal favorites are Lost Song pt 2, Ariel and Take Shelter. Overall it's a very solid, yet different release from one of the best bands out there today. Take a listen and see for yourself.
