These recordings were never released on CD until now that the producer Alan Douglas has chosen to save them from oblivion, as well as the painting by Mati Klarwein, reproduced on the cover which has never been published before either. With Otis Spann on piano, Luther Johnson on guitar, Mojo Buford on harmonica, the producer knew what he was dealing with: serious clients who know what they were all about in terms of blues. They had the repertoire down to an art, which they practiced on the road and delivered a husky and rustic version, with the whole crew to cook up their blues. Owing to his contractual obligations, Muddy Waters couldn’t sing, but he did not deprive himself of supplying the backing guitars, and laying down a few solos. “Mud in your ear!”
