America was going through a musical revolution in the late 1980s/early 1990s with bands such as Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, R.E.M. and the Lemonheads spearheading the ‘alternative’ scene. However, these iconic ‘indie’ names were about to have their collective bubbles burst by underground upstarts over on the West Coast, namely Seattle. It would be commonly coined in the media as ‘Grunge’, but in fact, was a developing chapter in the ever-evolving punk rock matrix. This collection charts the movement’s breakthrough from its West Coast origins in 1987 to a global audience in 1995 and provides the essence of this pivotal scene with a set of live shows from the most iconic and influential bands from the period. Containing vitriolic and explosive performances from those thrown to the forefront of the scene and on the cusp of mainstream success.
