Popcorn refers to a music culture having it’s origins in the Belgian discotheque “POPCORN”, where the trend began to spread in the late 1960s continuing to the early 80s, particularly in the BeNeLux countries, but also in the border regions of Germany, especially North-Rhine Westphalia, and France. Now, Belgian DJs became successful musical treasure hunters, because they found rare 7 „vinyls from the US, UK and elsewhere with this particular popcorn dance rhythm (emphasis on 2 and 4, moderate tempo). Stylistically, it was a colorful mix of Soul, R&B and 1960s pop music. The result was also the idea of playing songs in a beatsynchronous endless, which later became an absolute standard in modern club culture. These days the very successful music documentary „THE SOUND OF BELGIUM” currently ensures that the style is again enjoying new popularity. Get 40 unique popcorn tracks on two CDs at a nice price!
