On their fifth album, the musicians remained true to atmospheric death metal and have expanded their unmistakable trademarks. Serum is the most innovative, complex and gripping album in the band's history. DEAD ALONE reflect an oppressive reality in which humanity evokes its own apocalypse through the ruthless exploitation of faith and hope. With Serum the band pushes the listener mercilessly into this world. Their foundation is made up of milling guitars, constantly rushing drums and powerful bass. Florian Hefft's vocals are enthroned over all this, with facets ranging from desperate screams and gallstorming barking to shocking growls. Artfully interwoven orchestral passages penetrate this 56-minute massif. Serum was produced at the Pearlsound Studio in Munich and the recordings of the drums took place at Forester Studios (including THR?NENKIND, HERETOIR). None other than Frieder Loch (Ex-TODTGELICHTER) was responsible for parts of the orchestration and synths. Mix and mastering was done by Dinos Psychon Prassas (Live-Guitar SEPTICFLESH), who gave Serum the powerful and at the same time transparent sound. It took three years for DEAD ALONE to realise their ideas of the perfect interplay of artwork, lyrics and music.
