180g black vinyl edition! The Greek-American opera singer Maria Callas (1923-77) was one of the most important sopranos of the 20th century and is regarded as the unrivalled "Primadonna assoluta". Callas appeared in many roles. Her repertoire included 43 complete parts as well as arias from 34 other operas. Her vocal range ranged from f sharp in Verdi's "Sicilian Vespers" to f3 in Rossini's "Armida". In addition to the range of almost three octaves, her voice had great flexibility. Callas has left a significant musical legacy. From 1952 until her departure from the opera stages with the "Tosca performance" on 5 July 1965 at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, she recorded many of her great roles on records exclusively for EMI. Her recording of "Tosca" with Giuseppe Di Stefano and Tito Gobbi as partners under Victor de Sabata is still regarded as one of the best opera recordings ever. In total, there are over a dozen studio recordings of various operas. In addition, there are live recordings of opera performances and several recitals.
