Rim Banna was certainly the most popular Palestinian singer, songwriter, composer and peace activist. She was born in Nazareth on December 8, 1966 and died of cancer in March 2018. Banna made her debut in 1985 with "Jafra". "Voice Of Resistance" is their 13th solo album. The title can be understood both politically and personally, because since 2009 the singer was diagnosed with cancer, she had to fight with health problems and the loss of her voice. Until the end, she fought bravely and courageously against her illness, "Voice Of Resistance" was only completed shortly before her death. Her diagnosis played a major conceptual role in the production of the album. More precisely: their medical data. The Arab electronic artists' collective Checkpoint 303 translated the pictures and sounds into sounds and underscored the whole thing with beats. Rim Banna recites texts that refer to her illness, she also sings a few parts. The event is rounded off by massive piano improvisations by the Norwegian pianist and jazz musician Bugge Wesseltoft. Thus 15 defiantly vital pieces were created, which despite the serious background turn out neither sad nor melancholic.
