Anne Briggs was born near Nottingham in 1944. On a bicycle tour to Edinburgh she meets Bert Jansch, who is just at the beginning of his career as a British Dylan. The two of them look so similar that they are often considered siblings. Both of them are a couple in their private and artistic lives - Anne writes the arrangement for one of Jansch's best-known songs' Blackwaterside'. In retrospect, he likes to compare their influence on folk music with the influence of punk on rock music. Unpredictable on stage, she only finishes her set when she thinks it is right and prefers to perform' outside of buildings' anyway. Four weeks before her 18th birthday, she decides to become a musician and moves from home to join the' Center 42' - a group of artists and musicians who travel around the greater London area playing in pubs and festivals. Anne Briggs recorded three albums between 1971 and 1973, all of which failed commercially. She mainly plays and sings traditional British folk songs - her arrangements are meagre and unpretentious and her voice is not beautiful in the classical sense. On the recordings, her vocals are set with quite a lot of reverb - which motivates her later on to call her last album' Sing A Song For You'"not particularly good".
