This local electro-rock trio returns after some time away with a bar-raising album that shifts from their aughts-era dance-punk aesthetic to a fresh merging of Krautrock, glam rock, disco and different shades of new wave. Supremely poppy, with Gary Numan-esque synth riffs and moments of rock swagger reminiscent of bands like the Hives, Wrong also showcases significantly altered vocal intonations from singer Alexander Ortiz. The record opens with the jarring “Inconsiderate,” with Ortiz reaching near Pere Ubu levels of shoutiness, before his vocals settle into very Peter Gabriel tones (hey, “Games Without Frontiers” is still a classic). Most importantly, Wrong impresses with a series of seriously memorable songs.
