The latest strike by Big Bold Back Bone in form of their third CD (Wide Ear Records - WER028) is entitled "Emerge" and is the musical twin of the recently released CD/LP "In Search Of The Emerging Species" (Shhhpuma Records - SHH032). The recording was made during the same studio session in Lisbon. In contrast to the slow, almost incredibly concentrated sound stream epic with the 42-minute piece "Immerge" on "In Search Of The Emerging Species","Emerge" seems like an antiepos. The disc comprises seven pieces lasting between 3 - 8 minutes. Self-contained improvisations presented in an aesthetically impressive Big Bold Back Bone language. This is a result of the fact that the musicians of the band Marco von Orelli, Luis Lopes, Travassos and Sheldon Suter, have been working together for almost 10 years and foster a continuous exchange. In contrast to the twin, this music seems to be less radical, but more catchy, without losing its urgency, as if Big Bold Back Bone deliberately ignored seven forks on "Immerge" in order to examine them in a fascinating way in search of... in "Emerge"!
